Aled Roberts is a senior at NYU Steinhardt majoring in Music Theory and Composition and will be graduating in May with a Bachelor of Arts. Aled starting learning the violin at 4-years-old and has since picked up the piano, guitar and drums, among other instruments, and focuses on writing and performing concert, folk, rock and film music. He is currently studying under Argentinean composer, Ezequiel Viñao, working as a management assistant for two groups, and freelancing as a composer and session musician. Aled has created a wide variety of work for independent filmmakers, student films and commercial spots, all composed, performed, recorded, produced, and often mixed himself. He holds a close relationship with filmmaker Patrick Biesemans and scored the director’s self-released short Charles Bukowski’s Nirvana that launched into Vimeo’s Staff Pick List with over 50k views in the first month. His place in The Flea Theatre’s Music With A View Festival in 2011 got him called “a precocious young composer” by someone at TimeOut New York. Aled was given the NYU Steinhardt Certificate of Outstanding Musicianship in the Composition Program by Dr. Robert Rowe and Julia Wolfe last year. Upon graduation, he hopes to continue to work in music management while continuing to write and pursue a career in film scoring.
