His place in The Flea Theatre’s Music With A View Festival in 2011 got him called “a precocious young composer” by someone at TimeOut New York. Aled was given the NYU Steinhardt Certificate of Outstanding Musicianship in the Composition Program by Dr. Robert Rowe and Julia Wolfe last year. Upon graduation, he hopes to continue to work in music management while continuing to write and pursue a career in film scoring.

EXPERIENCE

Spring 2011, Columbia Records Walking Eye Internship
My responsibilities included creating a weekly calendar of all promising shows in the New York area, and pitching a promising artist weekly: accepted artists were then screened by A&R department in New York and LA.

Summer 2011, Carl Fischer Music Internship
In the Production Department at Carl Fischer Music, my responsibilities included data entry, engraving music into Sibelius, and editing scores. I was often given handwritten parts to transcribe into Sibelius with Carl Fischer notational standards.

June 2011 – December 2011, StyleCaster Music Research Intern
At StyleCaster, an online fashion website, my responsibilities included writing and posting 2 weekly articles on up-and-coming bands, and composing music for fashion videos. I was also in charge obtaining rights for songs StyleCaster wanted to use, which meant corresponding with the artist and their record label.

June 2011 – December 2011, Argento Chamber Ensemble Internship
Argento Chamber Ensemble is a non-profit group dedicated to making contemporary music accessible to the New York public. My tasks varied every month but included arranging Mahler Symphony 10 for the group’s chamber ensemble and aiding the organization of Argento’s Performer Series, which hosted beer tasting from a local brewer.

December 2011 – Present, Management Intern for Hem
Hem, a well-established Brooklyn-based folk band, took me on to support a few releases they are planning this year. I act as both a correspondent between the band and their LA-based management company, and as a scout for talented directors, artists, graphic designers that the band wants to use for music videos, album covers, and online presence.

January 2012 – Present, Assistant Manager for The Dirty Sock Funtime Band
The Dirty Sock Funtime Band, who has made many appearances on Nick Jr. over the years, hired me to help with management duties. Aside from various managerial tasks, I update the band’s website, YouTube account, and Nimbit account to assure that our online presence is strong and appropriate for our target audience.

January 2012 – Present, Freelance Composer
This year I began to freelance as a composer, getting jobs writing for StyleCaster, Covergirl, Sebastian, Zarco Tequila and many other commercial and film spots. I write, perform, record and mix in my home studio.
